The 3 Best Power Wheelchairs For Handicapped Children

Is your child in need of a power wheelchair and you are not sure what brand or model of power wheelchair to choose for them? There are a variety of variables to consider when buying a children’s wheelchair. Here are a couple of general tips to consider.

General Tips

- If the wheelchair will be maneuvered around the home, then a lightweight model might be the best option.

- Get one with detachable hardware so that it is easier to get close and thereby minimize the risk of bad posture during handling.

- It is important that you think about how the wheelchair will be transported. If it does not fold make sure you have reviewed your available car space.

- Take into consideration what type of wheelchair might be best suited for school or any other activity the child might be involved in.

- Consider whether you would like to buy a wheelchair that is the same size as the child now then buy a bigger size in future, or whether you would like to purchase one that can accommodate the size of the child for now but can still be adjusted in the foreseeable future.

- Carefully select the cushions that they will sit on. If the cushion is too thin there will not be enough support and if it is too thick it may become uncomfortable after a long period.
